Hello all,
Please find information on the upcoming HIV is Not a Crime II National (USA)
Training Academy to be held *May 17-20, 2016 @ **University Of Alabama In
Huntsville, **Huntsville, Alabama**, USA.*
Criminalization is a seriously pertinent issue for all women living with
HIV. Laws exist throughout the USA and Canada criminalizing non-disclosure,
and more, to intimate partners, health-care providers and others. Neither
intent nor transmission need be present for prosecution with most of these
laws. These laws significantly affect and are affected by stigma in a
vicious cycle. Even if a WLHIV has not been directly charged, the very
presence of these laws directly affect all WLHIV due to this strong,
secondary effect. This is also true for WLHIV whose family members,
partners and friends which may be charged, at risk or affected.
Furthermore, even where HIV-specifc laws do not exist, prosecutions related
to HIV non-disclosure and more still do occur and, often at a higher rate
than areas which do have HIV-specifc laws on the books.
I can attest firsthand to the high quality of these trainings. In September
2015 I attended both a Network Empowerment Seminar on Criminalization and a
Criminalization Track training sponsored by SERO and others.
Creating a workshop is an excellent avenue to becoming more involved!

*HIV is Not a Crime II* will unite and train advocates living with HIV and
allies from across the country on laws criminalizing PLHIV and on
strategies and best practices for repealing such laws. Skills-building
training, with an emphasis on grassroots organizing, advocacy,
coalition-building and campaign planning, will leave participants with
concrete tools and resources to work on state-level strategies when they
