So true! I think people either want to know they are "safe" or there is a
juicy story, ie. sex, drugs or rock and roll. I think it is even worse to
ask a woman because they have no idea what kind of trauma may have led to
her infection and that question could be making her re-live that traumatic
stress.  Then there is the whole judgement scenario ... depending on how
you got it how "guilty" or how much you are to blame for your illness. None
of which are respectful or helpful.
It still happens all the time tho!
