Thursday, November 13, 2014, 1 p.m. ET.

Since successful antiretroviral treatment can reduce the amount of virus in
the bodily fluids to very low levels, there is increasing interest in the
use of treatment to prevent HIV transmission. Indeed, several research
studies have released exciting results on the use of treatment as a
prevention tool. However, translating the information from these studies
into simple and effective messages can be challenging. In this webinar, we
explore the state of the science and its implications for HIV prevention
messaging. Register

*Webinar #2: A Complicated Dilemma: HIV and infant feeding*

Tuesday, November 25, 2014, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In Canada, parents who are living with HIV are advised not to breastfeed
infants, as this may present a risk for the vertical transmission of the
virus. In a social context where breastfeeding is often touted as being
optimal for babies’ physical and emotional health, the decision not to
breastfeed can be a difficult one. This webinar will examine the science
behind the vertical transmission of HIV in the context of breastfeeding, as
well as some of the issues and tensions that emerge for positive parents
who are asked to formula-feed. Presenters will also provide tangible
options and strategies that parents can use to help lessen and mitigate
some of these tensions. Register

CATIE Webinar: *The HIV prevention pill: The state of pre-exposure
prophylaxis (PrEP) science and implementation*
<http://www.catie.ca/en/upcoming-webinars?utm_source=tce&utm_medium=email&utm_content=en&utm_campaign=111214>

Thursday, December 11, 2014, 1 p.m. ET

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is an HIV prevention strategy that
involves HIV-negative individuals taking antiretrovirals on an ongoing
basis to reduce their risk of HIV infection. While PrEP has not been
approved in Canada, it is available from healthcare providers who are
willing to prescribe it and some people in Canada are using it. This
webinar explores the science behind PrEP, where we are in terms of
implementation, and what frontline service providers can do to ensure PrEP
is implemented in a safe and effective way. Register

If you blinked, you may have missed some of the ways HIV has changed. The
science of HIV is constantly evolving, and what we knew (or thought we
knew) just a few years ago is either incorrect, incomplete or in need of an
upgrade. Every year we learn more about the virus, and research keeps
giving us new tools to prevent, test and treat it. Read more
