International Steering Committee (ISC) Report Back
January 2014
Hello ICW Members and Partners,
Here is your update for January 2014.
Things are really moving within the ICW Global Office to ensure that we are
ready for a smooth move from Argentina to Kenya in March of 2014. This
process is being lead by the Transition Working Group who has recently
hired a Transition Manager, Inviolata Mmbavi. Inviolata has a long history
in the women and HIV movement and we are thrilled that she will be guiding
us through this process on the ground in Kenya. As stated in our
communication in November, the ICW Global Office will be registering in
Kenya and have a small office that will have local and virtual staff.
ICW is also proud to announce that it was granted RCNF funding for a
consortium of 5 regions and the global office. This funding will enable a
number of key core positions to be hired and/or retained regionally and
globally as well as to do follow up the successes of Robert Carr 1. ICW is
gearing up to do some very exciting projects -stay tuned!
The Financial Resources and Accountability have been hard at work drafting
proposals in January and ensuring that we meet all the deadlines.
ICW is well into the UNAIDS and FIGO project developing and implementing an
advocacy plan for forced and cored sterilization of women living with HIV.
This project is starting with focusing on the Namibian court case in March
but will quickly move beyond that to all the regions that are experiencing
this human rights violation. In our new Strategic Plan, this is one of our
key goals that we will be focusing on stopping in the next 3 years. Don't
mess with ICW!
We are in the final stretch of our strategic plan which should be launched
shortly. The Advocacy Working group is finalizing our three year Advocacy
Strategy as well. One thing that we will be working on in 2014 is a
revision of all of our policy documents and position statements. We will be
jointing forces the Canadian HIV Legal Network, a global human rights
force, who will be assisting with technical support in this endeavor.
ICW is going to be at the Commission on the Status of Women and are very
excited to be joining our partners in this arena. If you are planning to
attend CSW please contact us immediately as we have a small working group
that has been meeting to strategize. While we do not have any funding we
want to make sure that we document and connect all the amazing women living
with HIV in New York City. We are more powerful together!

In regional news ICW Southern Africa was re-launched during ICASA in
December 2013 and are gearing up for the Namibia forced sterilization court
case in March. ICW East Africa is also working with ICWSA and the global
team to do joint advocacy with the help of UNAIDS and FIGO around forced
and coerced sterilization.
ICW West Africa participated in peer mentoring learning exchange and
regional policy dialogue on Women's property and inheritance rights in the
context of HIV&AIDS and they are strategizing how to move this issue of
economic justice.
ICW North America has launched its annual campaign LOVE POSITIVE WOMEN
between February 1st - 14th.
ICW Asian Pacific (WAP+) has been busy developing its mentorship program
and getting ready for Melbourne.
