Hi all,
I heard this broadcast today on CBC Radio One on BC Almanac about Julio
Montaner receiving the Order of Canada. Denise Becker called in to talk
about stigma. Thanks Denise for doing that!
Listen to it here: http://www.cbc.ca/bcalmanac/
Featured Audio in right column; December 29th, Interview with Julio starts
22 minutes in.
This is the comment that I sent in to CBC afterwards:
Julio Montaner deserves an Order of Canada award for his perseverance in
the struggle against the spread of HIV when public interest has faded.
Unfortunately there is still no National HIV/AIDS strategy in Canada.
People in all the provinces and territories deserve the same quality and
affordability of testing and healthcare that are available to people living
with HIV in BC. There is much work to be done and we need the political
will to accomplish this. There is an important petition spearheaded by the
Southern Gulf Islands AIDS Society and is being championed by Elizabeth May
OC, MP. http://elizabethmaymp.ca/get-involved/national-aids-strategy
Please take a minute to sign the petition on her website. Also, and the
most effective thing is to print out a copy, get it filled with signatures
and then ask your MP to present it or send it to Elizabeth May (all
information included on the 3rd page of the petition)
