Hi all,
Please spread the word ...

A group of high school students from Sardis Senior Secondary (near
Chilliwack) is holding a fundraising benefit concert: "Drumming for Change"
on May 29th at 7pm to raise money for the Stephen Lewis Foundation
Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.
This campaign supports grassroots community based HIV projects across sub
Saharan Africa which support Grandmothers raising their grandchildren
orphaned by the HIV epidemic. There is a local Grandmother Group, the
Chilliwacky Gogos who are co sponsoring this fundraiser.
The concert will likely sell out because the school Drumline band is award
winning and very popular, so there will be an audience of 1000 Chilliwack
citizens.. some of whom may have limited understanding and knowledge of the
realties of HIV, here or in Africa.

There will be a few speakers, each with a only a few minutes: a nurse who
has worked in HIV care locally, with a small stint in Kenya, a grandmother
who has been at a Grandmother's gathering in Swaziland, and we are hoping
to invite a positive African Canadian woman to come to speak as well. The
talk would only be for 3 or 4 minutes! and we hope this will contribute to
countering myths and stigma around HIV realities.

Because Chilliwack is a bit of a drive from the Lower Mainland, and for
time etc. there will be a small honorarium, likely around $150.

Grandmothers campaign,
