International Steering Committee Report Back

November 2013

Hello ICW Members and Partners,

Here is your ICW Global update for November 2013.

As many of you have probably read in our recent press release, the ICW
Global Office will be moving to Nairobi, Kenya following an intensive
strategic planning meeting in October. Currently we have a Transition
Working Group leading the process to keep things on track for our
completion of the move scheduled in March 2014. We are please to announce
that we are hiring a Transition Manager for a short-term contract to assist
with the move of the Global Office to Nairobi, Kenya.

Other outcomes from our ICW Global Strategic Planning and Partnership
Meeting are an outline of a strategic plan, global advocacy platform and
strategy to guide our global work for the next three years. These documents
are scheduled for completion in January 2014. We have ambitious goals and
we are determined to continue working together as a team to do the hard
work necessary to complete these tasks on time.

In order to keep opportunities open for all ICW members, we have created
openings for ICW members to be part of targeted working groups and to
represent ICW in Global and Regional arenas. We are particularly looking
for members with science backgrounds who are interested in bio medical
interventions, the medicines patients pool, research and the Global Fund’s
New Funding Model.

ICW Global supported the regional chapter in the Asian Pacific region,
WAP+, at the ICAAP conference in Bangkok November 18 – 22nd. A number of
members participated in the ASAP and ATHENA led Global Fund Training and
the dynamic Unzip the Lips platform! ICW’s presence was strong as women
living with HIV lead the march following the opening ceremony. ICW also
partnered for the first time with the Global Women’s Network for
Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) to have a Date and Doodle intergenerational
skills sharing session as a way to find linkages between SRHR and HIV
advocates. After a highly successful session we will be duplicating this
workshop at ICASA in December and at the Regional SRHR Conference in Manila
in January. ICW also partnered with HIV Young Leaders Fund to support the
No Pants No Problem project to celebrate sexuality, and diversity within
the HIV movement.

ICW Global presented at the Robert Carr recipients meeting to show the
regional and global accomplishments of the first round of Robert Carr
funding received by three African regions and Global. Donors must have been
pleased because some of them walked with us and carried our banners in the
march the following day during ICAAP!

ICW Global supported sex workers by signing onto the NSWP led statement to
stop the criminalization of their third parties. We also created a joint
statement with WGNRR advocating for sexual and reproductive rights for
women living with HIV for World AIDS Day.

In regional news, JCW+ drafted a report on Violence against women in the
Caribbean and HIV, posted updates to CCPW members groups and is promoting
their HIV Quilt for their Anti-sigma and Discrimination campaign.

ICW NA launched its second regional newsletter for World AIDS Day and
endorsed a statement spearheaded by the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network
about the Trans-Pacific Partnership and its threat to access to medicines. ICW
NA was also represented at the US PLHIV Caucus Steering Committee meeting.
The Caucus updated its governance structure and established a public policy
committee. ICW NA is now a permanent member of the Steering Committee.

On November 6th, ICW Europe and Central Asia participated in the Regional
consultation with civil society on the Post-2015 Development Agenda in
Istanbul. Members also protested the closure of the Lavra HIV Clinic in the
Ukraine.

In the MENA region has been busy drafting position statements in
partnership with the Regional Arab Network Against AIDS in preparation for
World AIDS Day. These statements highlight the human rights abuses in
particular violence and the lack of ARVs in the region.

To finish our Report Back we are in the process of creating a list of ICW
members that would like to represent ICW Global, please contact our Global
Advocacy Mentor Beri Hull.

We are so encouraged by all your passion and drive!!! Nothing for Us,
Without Us!!!!
