Since February 2011, Jessica Whitbread has been mapping the informal
networks of women living with HIV through her tea parties. Generally lined
with vintage table clothes and fine china, positive women are asked to
bring a teacup and letter that they leave behind. Like a little carrier
pigeon Jessica takes the letters and teacups to other tea parties and gives
them new homes in the hands and hearts of another woman living with HIV
across North America. But before this happens photos are taken to document
the process.

Between April 12-14th these photos will be displayed at Dynamo Arts
Association (Suite 103 - 30 East 6th Ave, Vancouver)  allowing the viewer
to peak into the magical stories, experiences and the resilience of the
women who participated.

There will be 2 tea parties hosted in the space on Friday, April 12th where
individuals can engage in critical conversations about HIV, building
communities and community-based research models.

*Not All HIV is Created Equal
11-1pm
A Tea Time workshop for community members and our allies to have critical
discussions about the aspects of HIV that we are not allowed to talk about.*

*Building Communities of Women Living with HIV*
*3-5pm
A special closed Tea Time workshop for women living with HIV, creating
space to celebrate in our intersectionality and all of our fabulousness. *

public**

Tea Time is a community arts project and method that is performative and
dialectical using trickster pedagogy masked in colonialist ‘tea party’
traditions. Based in feminist and popular education frameworks, Tea Time
shifts the power relations by enabling a collective, communal learning
experience as a means to create and explore group knowledge. As a
contemporary model of feminist consciousness raising groups, Tea Time
brings diverse communities together to deconstruct our understanding of
time, place and social relationships, in warm, inclusive, food filled
environments.

Note: Participants are encouraged to wear their best and bring goodies to
share to this community building project.****
