A message from the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network:
In the wake of the Supreme Court of Canada's recent decisions in R. v.
Mabior and R. v. D.C., a lot of media ink has been spilled - and the
Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network and our partners have been very active,
influencing coverage and bringing real understanding to this complex issue.
The following is a selection of thoughtful and notable media coverage on
the issue, both print and video (please note that links below are currently

for Women Living with HIV.*
_________________________________________________________________________
* *Meet Lori, who says, "I didn't expect to see 40." She was diagnosed with
HIV in her early thirties. She's now 47 and happily thriving. And then
there's Heather, who came to terms with her HIV diagnosis later in life-
"My kids knew more about HIV than I did!" Lori and Heather are just two of
the women who are part of Positive Women's Network's newest resource, the
Pocket Guide on Aging for Women Living with HIV. This new Guide honours the
shifts that women face as they age. Sections on physical, mental and
emotional aspects of getting older are included with specifics on
treatment, body changes, sexuality and community connections. Get your copy

First Nations Health Authority in BC has just launched a new magazine,
Spirit
_________________________________________________________________
*
First Nations' views of health are focused on seeing connections between
health, food, work, culture, family and community. The Ancestors taught
that understanding the land, leadership, sustainable use of resources and
the ability to provide for family and community were essential to survival.
First Nations balanced ways of life was disrupted and there was a serious
decline in their social and economic wellbeing due to the changes
associated with contact and colonization. These changes and the effects of
residential schools are still being felt by First Nations families and
communities today. Despite these issues, BC First Nations have shown
incredible resiliency and continue to embrace ancient cultural principles
that strengthen the wellness of the people.

A National Conference
Grounding Trauma 2013
May 8 & 9, 2013
Alliston, Ontario, Canada
Internationally, there is a growing understanding of the numerous and
diverse effects of trauma and unresolved grief on individuals and
communities. In the last few years there have been many advances in our
understanding of how the brain, the body and emotions are connected. We are
more aware of how brain plasticity changes the landscape of therapy, how
body awareness is linked to progress, and ways in which we can affect
positive change in the lives of youth and adults. It brings hope to our
work in new and exciting ways. We are eager to explore new, emerging,
progressive and creative approaches to trauma.

Living with HIV: 'We are not criminals'

Article from MondayMag.com
Positive Canadians fear new supreme court ruling that is intended to
protect will end up causing even more harm.
Imagine a world where you have to save condoms in the freezer every time
you are intimate. One where you have every potential lover sign a form
stating you disclosed your HIV status before things got serious, or where
you run to the doctor every time you want to have sex, just so you can get
a printout of your viral loads.
This could become a reality for approximately 80,000 Canadians. And that
number is growing every day.
