*-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-*
ICW Global Celebrates the Election of their Youngest Executive Committee in
ICW History
*Jessica Whitbread from Canada is the new World President of the network on
the period of 2012 to 2015.*
November 27th, 2012 – Panama City, Panama
The election is the result of a representative and democratic process of
voters which took place on the morning of November 23, 2012 in Panama City.
*The entire process was supported by a facilitator appointed by UNFPA and
officials from the Ford Foundation who served as observers.*

ICW Global is proud to announce the three strong, vibrant and young women
who will lead ICW Global past their 20th Anniversary; Jessica Whitbread,
Kenole Leinatsela and Arely Cano. ICW Global first made history 20 years
ago when the women stood up at the Amsterdam conference and declared their
rights to be heard thus forming the International Community of Women Living
with HIV/AIDS. On Friday, November 23rd, 2012 they did it again when the
International Steering Committee elected Jessica Whitbread from Canada, who
at 32 is their youngest Chair in network history. Kenole Leinatsela from
Botswana and Arely Cano from Nicaragua, both 34 were elected as the two
Vice Chairs. Together these young women represent some of the diversity and
many of the intersections within the HIV movement globally.
*“This is a pivotal time for ICW Global; with 3 bright vibrant young women
taking up the challenge of service. We look forward to innovative
leadership; supported by the diverse and more experienced ISC members." *said
*Olive Edwards* ISC representative from the Caribbean.
*“I am honored to have been elected as the chair of ICW Global,”* says *Jessica
Whitbread.* *“I won’t lie, I am equal parts excited and nervous. This is a
big job and I’m sure that there are many who think that young women are
incapable of doing it. Luckily this is not about one person it is about a
team; a community; a movement. Together we will repair and strengthen
relationships, create stronger measures of accountability and increase the
number of different women living with HIV who are heard at the table, no
more of only a few holding all the power and making these decisions. As
chair, I am committed to sharing the space and supporting other women to be
agents of change within ICW.”*
ICW Global is also ecstatic that all of the 16 seats from the 7 regions
(Africa, Asian Pacific, MENA, Europe and Central Asian, North America,
English Speaking Caribbean, and Latin America) have representation. This
has not happened in a very long time. Strength on the International
Steering Committee is evident with a mixture of former global chairs, such
as Deloris Dockrey (GNP+) and Patricia Perez (ICW Global) and many young
women such as Claire Gasamagera, Elizabeth Monisola Ajiboye, and Sandrine
Mataf.
ICW Global asks that you be supportive of our young women as they take on
this exciting new role.
* “Things are changing at ICW and if feels good. As the former Chair of ICW
Global, I am so happy to be passing the torch to these highly creative,
bright and dedicated women. I back them 100%,”* stated *Patricia
Perez,*Former president of the network, who concrete under her
leadership
important achievements as the acceptance of the network in the IPB; The
More Peace Less AIDS Campaign; the Coalition of First Ladies of America and
restructuring of the network.
