Dear Friend,

I hope this email finds you well. It has been a while since my last update
for the Gathering of Spirits Research Collaborative, though this is
certainly not from a lack of activity. Quite the contrary, our ‘AIDS 2012
Strategy Committee’ has been working hard behind the scenes in preparation
for the upcoming Canadian and international research conferences. Here’s
what we have planned for these events:


·        *CAHR 2012 at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, Montreal, April 19-22,
2012*

*SPECIAL SESSION ON COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH*: the CAHR 2012 organizing
committee has generously offered us time to host a special session on the
morning of Friday April 20th, from 7:30-8:45. Through the lens of research
with and for women, trans people, girls and HIV/AIDS, the session will
examine some of the broader challenges and strengths of collaborative
research. Our speakers, who represent diverse perspectives in the Canadian
research landscape, will draw from their work to address some of the
issues, barriers and facilitators to developing research initiatives that
cross disciplinary, stakeholder and/or geographical boundaries.

You will find additional information about this session attached. I will
send an email to promote the session shortly, and I invite you to
disseminate it through your networks.

*POSTER PRESENTATION:* Our abstract ‘Meeting New Challenges Across
Stakeholder and Disciplinary Boundaries: Towards a Coordinated Research
Agenda for Women and HIV/AIDS in Canada’ has been accepted for poster
presentation. We are currently developing the poster, which discusses the
origins of the Gathering of Spirits Research Collaborative and provides a
review of its first year of work. I invite you to swing by during the
conference to see the poster!

*FOR THOSE WHO WILL NOT BE ATTENDING CAHR:* We will make the poster, our
speakers’ presentations and other materials available online after the
meeting. Moreover, a broadcast of our special session will be available on
the CAHR website after the conference.


·        *AIDS 2012 in Washington, DC, July 22-27, 2012*

I am happy to report that our application for a Planning Grant from the
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (submitted in October 2011) has been
successful. The funding will allow us to organize an off-site satellite
event at AIDS 2012, to engage in an international dialogue and learn about
initiatives that are being undertaken to coordinate research with and for
women and HIV/AIDS.

We are also looking into other opportunities to share our work at the
conference, including the development of a workshop in the Women’s
Networking Zone. Additional information about our presence and activities
at AIDS 2012 will be sent to you shortly. In the meantime, please do not
hesitate to let me know should you be interested in contributing to this
work, and I will happily add you to the AIDS 2012 Strategy Committee
mailing list.

J’espère que vous vous portez bien. Voilà déjà quelques temps depuis
l’envoi de la dernière mise à jour au sujet de ‘Rassemblement d'esprits :
un regroupement national de recherche collaborative sur le VIH avec les
femmes, les personnes trans et les filles,’ mais ce n’est certes pas par
manque d’activités! Bien au contraire, le Comité de planification pour SIDA
2012 travaille fort en préparation pour le congrès de l’ACRV et la
Conférence internationale sur le VIH/sida. Voici ce que ces événements nous
réservent :


·        *Congrès de l’ACRV, au Fairmont Reine Elizabeth, Montréal, du 19
au 22 avril 2012*

*SÉANCE SPÉCIALE *: Le comité organisateur du congrès nous a généreusement
accordé du temps afin que nous puissions organiser une séance spéciale*. *Cette
séance aura lieu le vendredi 20 avril, de 7h30 à 8h45 et portera sur les
défis et les forces caractérisant les initiatives de recherche
collaborative. En s'appuyant sur leur travail, des conférenciers
représentant différents point de vue du milieu canadien de la recherche se
pencheront sur les difficultés liées à la mise sur pied d'initiatives de
recherche interdisciplinaires, à intervenants multiples et/ou
transfrontalières, ainsi que sur les éléments favorisant de telles
initiatives.

Vous trouverez ci-joint un document qui offre des détails additionnels au
sujet de la séance. Je vous ferai parvenir un courriel promotionnel sous
peu, que je vous invite à partager avec vos amis, collaborateurs et
collègues.

*AFFICHE : *Nous développons présentement une affiche qui sera présentée au
congrès, intitulée ‘Travailler en partenariat pour rencontrer les nouveaux
défis: Vers l’élaboration d’actions concertées de recherche pour et par les
femmes et le VIH au Canada.' Cette dernière parlera des origines de
Rassemblement d’esprits, et offrira un survol de la première année
d’existence du collectif. Nous vous invitons à passer voir l’affiche
pendant le congrès!

*POUR CEUX D’ENTRE VOUS QUI NE POURREZ ÊTRE AU CONGRÈS DE L’ACRV
:*L’affiche, les présentations Powerpoint de nos conférenciers et
d’autres
ressources seront disponibles en ligne après la conférence. De plus, l’ACRV
enregistrera une version vidéo de notre séance, qui sera disponible sur
leur site web suite au congrès.


·        *Conférence international sur le VIH/sida, à Washington, DC, du 22
au 27 juillet 2012 *

Il me fait grand plaisir de vous annoncer que notre application pour une
bourse des IRSC (soumise en octobre 2011) a été acceptée. Ce financement
nous permettra d’organiser une séance spéciale hors-site dans le cadre de
SIDA 2012, où nous aurons la chance d’échanger avec des partenaires
internationaux sur des initiatives de coordination et de concertation en
recherche pour et par les femmes et le VIH.

Nous étudions également d’autres opportunités d’échange de connaissances
dans le cadre de la conférence, par exemple l’organisation d’un atelier
spécial dans la zone des femmes. Des détails additionnels sur notre
présence et nos activités à la conférence de Washington vous seront envoyés
sous peu. Entre temps, n’hésitez pas à me contacter désireriez-vous
participer à ces activités, et il me fera grand plaisir de vous ajouter à
la liste d’envoi du Comité de planification pour SIDA 2012.
