e-Guide for Community Involvement at AIDS 2012****
http://aids2012community.org ****
*ABOUT THE e-GUIDE*
ICASO, in partnership with the International AIDS Society, has developed
the e-Guide for Community Involvement at AIDS 2012. The e-Guide has been
designed to assist community delegates attending AIDS 2012 by providing
relevant and practical information on conference-related issues, and
facilitating information exchange on platforms such as
Facebook<http://www.facebook.com/pages/AIDS-2012-Community/251787648209185>
and
Twitter <https://twitter.com/#!/aids2012guide>, enabling community
delegates to take their rightful place and participate meaningfully at the
conference. Post-conference, the e-Guide will be evaluated by means of an
electronic survey. We encourage all participants to the conference, as
well as those who could not attend, to complete the evaluation survey which
will be available on the e-Guide site. ****
This information note outlines some of the main content and key issues that
have been covered in the e-Guide so far.****
* *
*VISAS*
There have been rising concerns about the number of refusals of entry visas
to the US to eligible conference participants. We encourage readers who
have had their US visa application declined to share their stories if they
so wish by writing to the e-Guide <http://aids2012community.org/> and
posting their comments on our “Travel to the United
States<http://www.aids2012community.org/positive-advice/travel-to-the-united-states/>”
page, or alternatively using our
Facebook<http://www.facebook.com/pages/AIDS-2012-Community/251787648209185>
page or via Twitter <https://twitter.com/#!/aids2012guide>. You may wish to
add comments on US Government travel restrictions for sex workers and
people who use drugs. *Please share your thoughts on the practical
solutions that should have been put in place to address this issue and by
whom.*

*COMMUNITY UPDATES***
*Sex Worker Freedom Festival for Sex Workers and Allies*<http://www.nswp.org>
* *
The Global Network of Sex Work
Projects<http://www.nswp.org/page/iac-2012-kolkata>(NSWP), in
collaboration with Durbar
Mahila Samanwaya Committee <http://durbar.org/> (DMSC), is hosting the Sex
Worker Freedom Festival in Kolkata, India – an official hub of the AIDS
2012 conference – because sex workers are likely to be refused visas to
travel to Washington DC. ****
The Freedom Festival programme will focus on freedoms that we are all
entitled to:****
**§ **Freedom of movement and to migrate;****
**§ **Freedom to access quality health services;****
**§ **Freedom to work and choose occupation;****
**§ **Freedom to associate and unionize;****
**§ **Freedom to be protected by the law;****
**§ **Freedom from abuse and violence; and****
**§ **Freedom from stigma and discrimination.****
More information on the Freedom Festival is available on the NSWP website

*“AIDS 2012 Ensuring That Our Voice is Heard Я сделаю все, чтобы нас
услышали” *
* *
The Eurasian Harm Reduction Network <http://www.harm-reduction.org/> (EHRN)*
*will be hosting two hub events: a pre-conference consultation on 9-10 July
and a post-conference hub on 10 September – both events will take place in
Kiev. As with the Sex Worker Freedom Festival, these events are an
important opportunity for people who use drugs to participate in AIDS 2012
given the likelihood of visa applications to the US being refused. ****
****
The objective of the hub in Kiev is to build capacity of regional and
national groups of people who use drugs and other affected communities to
take part in national and international-level advocacy for better access to
HIV prevention and treatment services.****
** **
Organizers of the AIDS Hub in Kiev will work with representatives of the
community of people who use drugs and other groups to develop and
communicate their messages to the delegates attending the AIDS 2012
Conference.****
** **
The Hub will be focused on two main issues which hamper an effective
response to the AIDS epidemic in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA):****
** **
**§ **Violation of human rights of people who use drugs****
**§ **Lack of international and national funding for harm reduction and
HIV services****
Participants of the AIDS Hub in Kiev – representatives of drug user groups
and other affected communities in EECA – will receive scholarships to
travel to Kiev and share their thoughts on these critical topics. They will
develop key messages that will be recorded and played at thematic sessions
and the Global Village at the International AIDS Conference in Washington.
The purpose of these messages is to give the IAC delegates a better
understanding of the main causes behind the growing HIV epidemic in EECA
and the measures needed to halt the epidemic.****
The website is available in English <http://eeca-hub.net/ENG/> and
Russian<http://eeca-hub.net/>The deadline for
registration <http://eeca-hub.net/ENG/?page_id=17> is 14th June 2012.
Registration for both events is free-of-charge. Additional information on
conference hubs can be viewed here <http://www.aids2012.org/hubs.aspx>. ****

*Travel Reminder* ****
Each person arriving into the United States must complete one or more of

download the Customs
and Border Protection Traveller Entry Forms brochure. On arrival you may
find the high level of security confusing and frustrating. Please do not
become angry or verbally abuse any airport security or customs/immigration
official as this may result in serious repercussions for you. For further
