*1. REGISTER UNTIL 23 FEBRUARY TO AVOID LATE FEE SURCHARGE *
Delegates are encouraged to register until *23 February 2012* to avoid a
late fee surcharge. All registrations for AIDS 2012 must be submitted
through the online registration form. Before you can register, you need to
create a conference profile from which you can enter the registration
system. Your conference profile will then become your online gateway to all
conference-related submissions. Delegates of previous International AIDS
Conferences or IAS Conferences can use previous profile log-in information
to access their profile.

*2. FLIGHTS TO WASHINGTON, D.C., HOTEL ACCOMMODATION AND TOURS*
Individual and group flight bookings can be made online through the AIDS
2012 website. For more information on booking flights to Washington, D.C.,

A large number of hotel rooms in various price categories have been secured
in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore at preferential rates. Please visit
www.aids2012.org/accommodation.aspx for more information on accommodation
bookings for both individual delegates and for groups. Early bookings are
highly recommended. Please note that as of 16 May 2012 a late booking fee
of USD 60 will apply to all bookings.
Washington, D.C. hotels: From the conference hotels that are not within
walking distance or are not on the metro line, transportation by shuttle
buses from some pick up points to the Walter E. Washington Convention
Center and back are included in the room rates.
Baltimore hotels: Transportation by shuttle bus (Sunday 22 July) and train
(Monday 23 - Friday 27 July) from Baltimore to the Walter E. Washington
Convention Center are included in the room rates. Please note that it can
take up to 1h45 to commute from Baltimore hotels to the Walter E.
Washington Convention Centre.

*3. ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS: DEADLINE 15 FEBRUARY 2012 *
The XIX International AIDS Conference welcomes the submission of abstracts
for original contribution to the field in the following five scientific
tracks:
- Track A: Basic Science
- Track B: Clinical Science
- Track C: Epidemiology and Prevention Science
- Track D: Social Science, Human Rights and Political Science
- Track E: Implementation Science, Health Systems and Economics
Abstract submissions will be scored by an international panel of reviewers
through a blind peer-review process and ultimately selected by members of
the AIDS 2012 Scientific Programme and Track Committees. Online abstract

*4. ABSTRACT MENTOR PROGRAMME: DEADLINE 1 FEBRUARY 2012 *
The goal of the AIDS 2012 Abstract Mentor Programme is to provide an
opportunity for young and/or less experienced abstract submitters to ask
for feedback from experienced abstract submitters. The programme is
especially targeted at researchers from resource-limited settings who lack
access to opportunities for rigorous mentoring in research and writing, for
whom online distance education is proven to cost-effectively build research
capacity.
The programme is completely independent of the abstract review and
selection process and is entirely dependent on volunteer experienced
researchers acting as mentors.

*5. GLOBAL VILLAGE AND YOUTH PROGRAMME SUBMISSIONS: DEADLINE 15 FEBRUARY
2012 *
The Global Village is a diverse and vibrant space where community gathers
from all over the world to meet, share and learn from each other. It is a
space for community to demonstrate the application of science and good
leadership. Examples of activities include sessions, forums, oral
presentations, awards, networking zones, NGO exhibition booths, marketplace
booths, art exhibits, film screenings and performing arts. The Global
Village is open to the general public and conference delegates and
admission is free. The aim of the Youth Programme is to work to strengthen
the participation of young people and the profile of youth issues at AIDS
2012 through activities such as a youth pavilion, youth-driven sessions, an
electronic youth newsletter, the youth opening session and reception, a
commitment desk and a youth pre-conference.
The Washington, D.C. YouthForce, in conjunction with the AIDS 2012 Youth
Working Group have launched their E-consultation for advocacy messages at

AIDS 2012 will offer 60 workshops to enhance delegates' learning
experience. Each workshop will focus on a particular topic in the areas of
professional development, leadership and accountability, or community
skills development. Experienced and dynamic practitioners and faculty will
facilitate the workshops.

*7. APPLICATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS: DEADLINE 15 FEBRUARY 2012*
The conference organizing partners are committed to making AIDS 2012
accessible to people from resource-limited settings, researchers globally,
community activists and civil society representatives. Priority will be
given to those whose participation will help enhance their work in their
own communities, to those who are able to assist in the transfer of skills
and knowledge acquired at the conference, and to those whose abstract,
workshop or activity submission has been selected. A very limited number of
scholarships will also be available for media representatives from around
the world. Media scholarship applicants will be asked to provide media
accreditation and supporting documents.

speakers of the satellite meetings will be reviewed by the programme
committee to ensure that they meet the scientific and ethical principles of
the conference.

*10. RED RIBBON AWARD NOMINATIONS: DEADLINE 29 FEBRUARY 2012*
The Red Ribbon Award, a biennial award honouring community-based
organizations for their contributions in responding to the AIDS epidemic,
will be presented at AIDS 2012 in Washington DC to 10 organizations, which
have shown outstanding community leadership and action on AIDS. The Red
Ribbon Award for 2012 will honour community-based groups active in the
following areas of the response to AIDS:
- Prevention of sexual transmission
- Prevention among people who use drugs
- Treatment, care and support
- Advocacy and Human Rights
- Stopping new HIV infections in children and keeping mothers alive;
Women's Health
If you know of an outstanding community-based organization making
innovative contributions to the AIDS response, please nominate them before
29 February 2012. Groups are welcome to self-nominate.

*11. ORGANIZING A CONFERENCE HUB*
Commit to making the conference accessible to your community bringing the
momentum, expertise, and materials from the global conference home. Host a
conference hub!
These "mini conferences" are held in conjunction with the conference by
organizations active in the AIDS response. Sessions from the conference
will be recorded and available free of charge for selected applicants and
can be screened at the organizers' discretion.
Conference hubs are a unique opportunity to build professional capacities
among local stakeholders and help strengthen the local HIV response,
potentially leading to the development of a comprehensive plan for future
action at local or regional levels.

*11. ORGANIZACIÓN DE UN CENTRO PARALELO DE DEBATE DE LA CONFERENCIA *
Comprométase a facilitar el acceso de su comunidad a la conferencia: lleve
el impulso, la experiencia y los materiales de la conferencia global a su
hogar. ¡Auspicie un centro paralelo de debate de la conferencia!
Organizaciones activas en la respuesta frente al SIDA organizan estas
"miniconferencias" con la conferencia. Las sesiones de la conferencia se
grabarán y estarán disponibles en forma gratuita para personas
seleccionadas que lo hayan solicitado y se pueden proyectar a discreción de
los organizadores.
Los centros paralelos de debate son una oportunidad única de desarrollar
capacidades profesionales entre los participantes locales y ayudan a
fortalecer la respuesta local frente al VIH, lo que potencialmente se puede
traducir en el desarrollo de un plan integral para la acción futura a nivel
local o regional.
La organización de un centro paralelo de debate de la conferencia es
sencilla. Invitamos a las organizaciones a descargar y completar el formulario
de planificación
