personally I believe its the way stats are prioritized(sp)if you have sex
with 1000 women (wishful thinking) and... its recorded by the higher risk
behavior,eg.sex with 1 man and/or 1 needle share.
I just thought it was about time I added my two cents about something
Happy New Year everyone

Female to male transmission is significantly more likely when sexually
transmitted infections (STIs) are present. I'm sure there are stats out
there. In terms of female to female , the stats aren't out there because
aside from a very few rare exceptional cases (like under 5 ever reported in
N. America) it just doesn't happen... So the fact that 25 years has gone
by and this hasn't changed is simply more reassuring in my mind!

AFRICA. Transmission is majority hetero, but note that it is a different
strain. I have met woman to man cases.

So.. is there anyone here willing to say that they actually personally know
of a straight man getting HIV from a woman through sex? I was with Lloyd 18
years and he never got it. I have never met a man who got it from a woman
and have never met a woman who passed it on to a man. Someday I would like
to finally hear some statistics.
Is it just me?

Hi Peggy: It's so scary to hear that the thought is out there, let alone
that the man couldn't get a medical test?!
I know it's been common knowledge (whispered knowledge) that it's not as
easy for a man to get hiv from a female as it is for a female to get it from
a male. But lately there's been too much certainty about this in the air,
especially with the addition of medications that keep the viral load down.
There is still risk (ie. the person not adhereing to meds, persons with
active herpes could pass HIV from one to the other, the person may not be
telling the truth etc. etc.)
But all the endless possibilities aside, since when did doctors stop erring
on the side of caution?
Thanks Peggy.

hi - great conversation - sorry to miss it. I will not be on the
conversation as I am heading east then to visit parents - but have an
alarming conversation to share. While speaking on a radio show with a
friend about HIV and sex a man called in from the San Francisco Bay area and
said that he could not get an HIV test unless he said he was bi. Straight
men were not considered at risk no matter what their activity. this
conversation made me wonder - what is the situation for testing in bc? and
then the devil in me thought - if there is no risk for straight men its time
to party. can't envision that without a condom. would love to open this
conversation to know what others have found.
also recently listening to someone i met at dance class talk about polyamory
and wondered what education this community is accessing regarding sti's.
just curious...
