Uniting Around a Common Agenda *

Today on Human Rights Day the Global Network of People Living with HIV
(GNP+) is pleased to share the People Living with HIV Global Advocacy
Agenda, 2013-2015. The Global Advocacy Agenda has guided networks of people
living with HIV and other organizations in their advocacy since 1999.
Throughout 2012, people living with HIV across the globe have taken part in
an extensive consultation process culminating in the Positive Leadership
Summit in Washington DC in July. The voice of every person involved in this
consultation has informed the development of this renewed Global Advocacy
Agenda.
The Global Advocacy Agenda is a groundbreaking document for the movement of
people living with HIV. It will guide all our efforts in achieving Positive
Health, Dignity and Prevention, says Anna akowicz, co-chair of GNP+.
Capturing the unmet needs of people living with HIV with respect to
Prevention, Treatment, Care and Support; Human Rights; and Community
Mobilisation, Strengthening and Activism, the Global Advocacy Agenda is
designed to strengthen and enhance existing advocacy initiatives, in this
critical period leading up to 2015. It reflects the diversity of the
advocacy efforts within the community and as such is more than just an
advocacy resource but a tool which galvanizes and unites people living with
HIV and allies.
Despite the varied needs of people living with HIV the Global Advocacy
Agenda focuses on the commonalities and principles that are pre-requisites
to realizing a truly effective HIV response, Kevin Moody, International
Coordinator of GNP+ stated. However, as the rights and involvement of
people living with HIV are still too often ignored for political,
ideological and economic reasons, people living with HIV must take a lead
in shaping the advocacy that effects change in all our lives our meaningful
involvement is crucial.
Last week, on World AIDS Day, people living with HIV shared a Call to
Action which seeks to mobilize the community around the world, and
reenergize a movement of activists and advocates to work together towards
shared goals.
We are sharing the Global Advocacy Agenda on this day, to reaffirm that
unless our human rights are recognized, respected and protected universal
access and other health outcomes are impossible, says Anuar Luna, co-chair
of GNP+. The Global Advocacy Agenda places human rights as a central
non-negotiable demand for the community of people living with HIV, one
which we must unite to achieve.
We ask that individuals, organisations and networks of people living with
HIV and all those that support our advocacy endorse the Call to Action. To
