*Subject:* [WNZAIDS2012] 2012 Women's Networking Zone (WNZ) -
*The Women’s Networking Zone (WNZ*) is a community-based and -driven
partnership forum for learning, cross-fertilization, dialogue building, and
exchange; for bringing together local, regional, and global perspectives;
and, for bridging the gender, human rights, HIV, and sexual and
reproductive health and rights communities. Building on over a decade of
women’s parallel organizing at international conferences, events, and high
level policy fora, including International AIDS Conferences at Toronto in
2006, Mexico City in 2008, and Vienna in 2010; the International Women’s
Summit in Nairobi, 2007; the High Level Meeting in New York, 2011; and, the
IAS HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention Conference in Rome 2011,
WNZ at AIDS 2012 presents an opportunity to mobilize locally, regionally, and
globally for innovative community building and advocacy, towards the
following objectives.
*Objectives***
• Strengthening the meaningful participation and leadership of
women, particularly those most affected by HIV, in all aspects of the
response;
• Supporting the next generation of leadership and promoting young
women;
• Championing gender equality and human rights;
• Sharing challenges and best practices in the response to women
and HIV, with a strong focus on the work being spearheaded by women living
with HIV;
• Bringing together community stakeholders, advocates, policy
analysts, decision-makers, service providers, and researchers to share and
learn;
• Fostering global, local alliances; and,
• Bridging the HIV, sexual and reproductive health and rights,
gender, and human rights communities.
*The WNZ partnership in Washington, DC @ IAC2012*
The *WNZ*, while coordinated by the ATHENA Network, operates on the
principle of local engagement, ownership, and leadership. Specifically, we
are working in close partnership with the ICW North America, ICW Global,
and the U.S. Positive Women’s Network, World YWCA to strengthen women’s
organizing around AIDS 2012 along with a growing global consortium.
*Building linkages to local community*
Working with partners in Washington, DC, we aim to make links to networks,
organizations, and community groups based locally to ensure their full and
meaningful involvement in: developing an agenda and program for the *WNZ*@AIDS
2012; showcasing their work; prioritizing key issues for local women;
commissioning relevant artwork and developing messages; and, ensuring the
full and meaningful representation of women and girls in all their
diversity.
*Women spoke up & Spoke Out!*
We were joined by old and new friends and supporters of the *WNZ *this
Tuesday and we were able to identify a broad array of topics that are
important to the health, rights and quality of life for women and girls
globally. We will be happy to share those notes in the coming moments and
to continue to hear more from each of you on ways to make the *WNZ* a
vibrant and fruitful space for cross-pollination, skill-building,
showcasing best practices, networking, rejuvenation and shared vision.
*Please keep posted for:*
- Call Notes
- Call for *WNZ *session proposals (skills-building, interactive,
panel discussions and more)
- Volunteer Opportunities (Virtual and On-the-ground in DC)
- Fundraising Information
- Conference Updates
Again, thank you to all of the amazing supporters who make the *WNZ* come
to LIFE!
Brightest,
*2012 WNZ Team*
