I started to write to all of you about the changes but I think this is a
good article on it
http://blogs.kqed.org/newsfix/2011/09/22/the-new-facebook-a-place-that-youre-proud-to-call-your-home/
The good:
You can link to Netflix, music your friends are listening to with Spotify
and find out in real time what they are writing on their status with Ticker
(rather like a stock ticker, just keeps moving). You can see what other
apps people are using and download them on Facebook so you can use them too
- e.g. recipes but the cost of this is not mentioned yet. There is Timeline
which, instead of scrolling back to see what you wrote a year ago, you can
go to a sidebar and press on the year and look it up and you can add photos
to that so that your childhood pics can be there. It will also allow your
friends to see minute details like what music you thought about for your
first song at your wedding, where you went to look for flowers, what run and
what time you did on a certain day (if you choose to feed it in).
The bad
The word Stalker is being bandied around a lot about these new features. Do
you really want people who have your password or people looking at your
facebook know what you are doing at any particular time of your life - i.e.
what did you say to that guy three years ago on Facebook?!!
Ticker is trying to take over from Twitter in allowing you to see news as it
happens and this is trying to capture Twitters' unique news availability - I
don't think it will.
I found the whole new Facebook very disturbing as someone who enjoys her
privacy, however I suggest you go onto YouTube to look up tutorials and
watch news channels to get all the viewpoints.
Denise
