This is the formal call for those who are interested in joining the AIDS
Vancouver team in the *AIDS WALK on September 18, 2011 at Sunset Beach*

* *

AIDS Vancouver is one of the community partners for the WALK this year. This
means that we will have AIDS Vancouver information at the WALK and we have
the opportunity to raise funds for the WALK with part of the proceeds from
our fundraising going directly back into AIDS Vancouver. ****

** **

We will be directing the money to the Financial Assistance Fund (FAF) -
provides people with HIV/AIDS living in the lower mainland, who are facing
unexpected financial hardship, with concrete assistance toward achieving and
maintaining financial stability. FAF provides to our clients who are in need
a subsidy for their bus pass, housing, prescriptions, moving expenses, and
utilities.****

We need people ****

**·         ***To raise funds/walk in the AIDS Vancouver Team*

**·         ***To volunteer to be at the information area to answer
questions about AIDS Vancouver services*

**·         ***To create your own team that will raise funds for AIDS
Vancouver (Please note if you are thinking of having your own team, please
let me know beforehand so I can let the organizers of the AIDS Walk know to
issue your team number the same as AIDS Vancouver team – 3000)*

When you do register as a member of the AIDS Vancouver team there will be a
section that asks you about a registration fee of $10. The only way not to
pay the Registration Fee is to raise over $250. ****

*PLEASE NOTE: As AIDS Vancouver is a community partner for the WALK we have
a specific number that needs to be included on ALL pledge forms. This is so
the money you raise on behalf of AIDS Vancouver can be tracked and returned
to us after the WALK. *

I will email you when I have the paper pledge sheets if you would like to
collect them or alternatively you can fundraise on line. Please let me know
directly if you would like paper pledge sheets and when you register as a
team member so I can track who is fundraising for AIDS Vancouver.****

fundraising/asking people to donate to our team.****

If you have friends or family that would be interested in being involved,
please pass on the information. ****

It’s a great day with lots of things to do, entertainment and a great chance
to spread the word of AIDS Vancouver, so the more the merrier.****

*Here is some of the new stuff happening with the AIDS Walk this year*

*DO SOMETHING for AIDS Week, August 20-27*

**·         **This is a new concept in 2011 where participants can do any
fun and crazy idea during the week of August 20-27 (ie. throw a party, wear
a purple wig for a week, etc, etc..) and raise funds for the WALK.****

**·         **This will be advertised with a section on WALK website &
should go live hopefully by end of this week informing participants about DO
SOMETHING for AIDS Week (what its about, how to do, register for it, etc)***

*WALK Launch*

**·         **Positive Living BC has sent an application to do an obstacle
course event on Granville Street (between Robson and Georgia) on Saturday,
August 13th – velcro obstacle course (theme for WALK in 2011 is HIV being
like an obstacle course – this is determined by national WALK partners)****

**·         **This will be a WALK launch event to advertise the WALK and get
participants to have fun on Granville Street****

** **

*WALK route *

**·         **Route has been extended to 6.6 km including seawall up to 2nd
beach plus Lost Lagoon & back to Sunset Beach.  ****

**·         **There’s also a shorter 2.2 km (only seawall up to 2nd Beach &
back) route for those that prefer the shorter route****

** **

*WALK site*

**·         **WALK site will have return of festival this year –
entertainment before and after the WALK will include Sisters of Perpetual
Indulgence, inquiring with Tops & Bottoms Comedy group, dancers, etc****

** **

*Day of WALK:*

**·         **10 am – Pancake Breakfast & Registration open****

**·         **11:30 am – Opening Ceremonies (half hour later than in
previous year)****

**·         **12 pm – WALK starts (half hour later than in previous year so
we are not crossing paths with Terry Fox WALK)****

**·         **1:30 pm – Entertainment & Closing – WALK day to end at 2 pm***
