Subject: Fraser Valley HIV/AIDS 2011 - March 16, 2011 - PRESS RELEASE
Dear Community Members,
The first case of AIDS in Canada was diagnosed in 1982. Over the past three decades, much has changed in the fight against HIV/AIDS, but, in the Fraser Valley, new infections continue to occur every year. In 2006, the Positive Living Fraser Valley (PLFV) Society was founded with a mission and vision for support, advocacy, prevention and belonging among Fraser Valley's persons living with HIV/AIDS, those at elevated risk of contracting the virus, and the general public.
We are attaching the Winter 2011 edition of the PLFV Quarterly newsletter, for those who aren't yet familiar with our organization. We also invite you to stop by our website for more details, especially after March 1st, when our brand new, expanded website will debut at www.plfv.org.
But, perhaps most importantly, we wanted to extend an invitation to an exciting event that will happen at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (adjacent to Abbotsford City Hall) from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. PLFV is pleased to invite Past-President of the International AIDS Society and current Director of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, Dr. Julio Montaner, to speak, along with Ms. Irene Day, Director of Operations at BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS.
The event is free and no registration is required. This will be a unique opportunity to hear from a true pioneer of medicine, who has not only been involved in world-changing work, but who continues to lead the way into the future (Read the New York Times article from earlier this month:http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/08/health/08vancouver.html).
Please see the attached press release for more details, as well as the ad for the event on the back page of the newsletter. (If you would like to have posters to publicize the event at your organization, please reply and we will arrange to send you a file to print your own, or to deliver printed copies to you.)
We apologize for the unsolicited email. If you would like to be removed from our mailing list (you won't receive more than one email from us per quarter), please reply with "REMOVE" in the subject line, and we will gladly oblige to not email you again.
Best,
Brian Gross, M.A.
