*Periodic Health Maintenance HIV & Aging [tear off sheets for patient
charts] *
With the advent of successful antiretroviral therapy, people living with HIV
are living longer. Although morbidity and mortality related to HIV causes
have decreased, new complications related to aging with HIV have evolved. It
has become increasingly important to screen for and treat conditions such as
cardiovascular disease, cancers, liver disease, renal disease, cognitive
changes and changes in bone density. The preventative HIV checklist was
created to assist both patients and clinicians to address these issues, in
an attempt to improve quality of life for patients and improved care.

Vancouver's harm reduction programs in reducing the transmission of HIV.

   - Anemia during Hepatitis C Treatment Predicts Sustained Response to
   Pegylated Interferon/ribavirin<http://hivandhepatitis.com/hep_c/news/2011/0111_2010_a.html>

Hepatitis C patients who develop anemia during treatment with pegylated
interferon plus ribavirin are more likely to achieve a sustained virological
response (SVR), according to data from the IDEAL trial published in the
November 2010 issue of Gastroenterology. Both ribavirin dose reduction --
which did not decrease SVR -- and medications that stimulate red blood cell
production may be used to manage anemia and help people stay on treatment,
the study authors concluded.

HIV-positive British Columbians redefined their collective identity today by
officially changing the name of the British Columbia Persons with AIDS
Society to “Positive Living Society of British Columbia (Positive Living
BC)”. Positive Living BC will build on the Society’s 25-year history of
empowering persons living with HIV/AIDS through mutual support and
collective action—but for the first time, the Society will pursue its
mission without specifying the virus or the disease in its title.

A new logo and website (www.positivelivingbc.org) will be launched by
mid-April, and both will be influenced by member feedback. The Society’s
location, office hours, and its phone and fax number will remain unchanged.
Members will continue to access existing services, as usual.
