Subject: CATIE - TreatmentUpdate 177
Dear Friend of CATIE and TreatmentUpdate subscriber,
I’m happy to share issue 177 of <http://www.catie.ca/tu.nsf> TreatmentUpdate, and to update you on a new resource available from CATIE.
In this issue of TreatmentUpdate, our Science and Medicine Editor, Sean Hosein, reviews studies focusing on the accelerated aging processes that may affect many organs and systems in prolonged HIV infections. This issue highlights the studies on accelerated cardiovascular and kidney diseases, as well as the associations between hepatitis C, HIV and health outcomes such as the presence of kidney disease and survival, and renal diseases in the context of tenofovir use.
CATIE continues to add to its collection of plain-and-simple interactive modules for people living with HIV. In <http://video.catie.ca/myh_03/player.html> Monitoring your health, CATIE’s (virtual) educators Mico and Tallah explain two tests commonly used to track HIV infection—CD4+ count and viral load. But there is more to health than HIV, and the module integrates information about tracking other health issues facing people with HIV. The module puts it all together and, most importantly, shows how people with HIV can play an active role in tracking their health and staying well.
As CATIE continues to strengthen its work as the national Knowledge Exchange Broker for the full continuum of information on HIV and hepatitis C prevention, care, treatment and support, we are seeking to increase our membership by reaching our readership across the country. If you reside in Canada, we invite you to join <http://www.catie.ca/eng/AboutCATIE/member.shtml> CATIE if you have not already done so. Membership in CATIE is free and allows us to provide you with greater detail about our work and the many services we offer. Membership is one way that you can engage with CATIE and help inform our work in HIV and hepatitis C prevention and treatment. If you join or renew now, your membership will be valid until March 31, 2011. If you have questions about your membership status, please contact Véronique Destrubé at 1-800-263-1638 ext. 267 or vdestrube at catie.ca.
As always, we encourage you to spread the word about CATIE, TreatmentUpdate and other resources available through the CATIE Ordering Centre <http://orders.catie.ca/index.php?language=en> and the CATIE website <http://www.catie.ca/eng/home.shtml> .
Sincerely,
Laurie Edmiston
