Hi folks,

I had breakfast this morning with our MLA, Michael de Jong, and spoke to him regarding the cuts to the Monthly Nutritional Supplement Benefit, medical benefits for people with disabilities, as well as the cuts to Positive Living Fraser Valley.  I was filled with tears and pain as I shook in a room full of community members while I spoke, but I said what needed to be said.  aWe will be meeting with his Constituency Assistant to talk about the issue further.  It’s a small win.  Sharyle, you are right.  Get out there and make our MLA’s feel the human side of this issue.  Get your MLA to pressure Minister Rich Coleman and his government to change their minds and treat us fairly.

 

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone next weekend….

I just looked into this and found out the ministry will be sending out a letter in April to those affected and that more details will be posted on the website on April 1st.  Everyone needs to contact their MLAs and remember that the government works for us.  We need to tell them what we want and need.

Speak out  Against Cuts to Medical Coverage for People with Disabilities

Dear Friend of Medicare, 
 
Following this month's provincial budget the Ministry of Housing and Social Development announced it will be making a number of cuts to the health and medical services available to people receiving provincial disability benefits and income assistance.

These include:

*	Cuts to Medical Equipment and Supplies 
*	Cuts to Monthly Nutritional Supplement 
*	Cuts to Medical Services 
*	Cuts to Dental Treatment 
*	Cuts to Shelter Allowance 


Our community allies at the BC Coalition of People with Disabilities (BCCPD) are very concerned about the impact that these changes will have its community and is disappointed at the lack of community consultation about these cuts.
