Aboriginal communities and HIV/AIDS, A Qualitative inquiry: The voices must
be heard

Hello everyone,

Kim McKay McNabb is an Aboriginal PhD student from Saskatchewan who has been
involved in HIV/AIDS research for many years. Please review the description
of her project below and the materials attached with this email to see if
you, or someone you know, might be interested in participating.

Kim is a passionate and dedicated researcher and she will make sure that the
results of her work are shared broadly and that there is follow through on
the results.

Warm regards,

Marni

Original e-mail from Kim McKay McNabb:

This is a study with Aboriginal Peoples who have been effected by (been
diagnosed with) or affected by (relative has been diagnosed with) HIV/AIDS.
The study is titled “Aboriginal communities and HIV/AIDS, A Qualitative
inquiry: The voices must be heard”. The purpose of this research is to
develop a better understanding of how HIV/AIDS is changing the health
landscape within Aboriginal communities.

My interest in this area developed through my own personal experience when I
was affected by HIV/AIDS. My eldest sister was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in
the late eighties. It is in her memory that I continue to dedicate part of
my life’s work to the area of HIV/AIDS and Aboriginal People’s.

It is my hope to recruit Aboriginal community members (both urban and an
on-reserve) to participate in interviews for this study. The criteria for
participating are:

(1) You are an Aboriginal person who has a HIV positive diagnosis/AIDS
status or

(2) You are an Aboriginal person who has a family member who has been
Diagnosed with HIV/AIDS

(3) You are an Aboriginal person who over the age of 18

(4) You self-identify as having an Aboriginal identity.

The interviews will be open ended either in person or by telephone. I will
conduct approximately 25 qualitative open-ended interviews with Aboriginal
community members from across Canada who have been effected by (been
diagnosed with) or affected by (relative has been diagnosed

with) HIV/AIDS to gain a better understanding of how HIV/AIDS is changing
the health landscape within Aboriginal communities. Grounded theory
methodology will be used to analyze the interview data. I do look forward to
developing a relationship to assist in gaining a better understanding of
HIV/AIDS and Aboriginal Peoples.

This project has been approved by the University of Regina Research Ethics
Board. Aboriginal People’s who are interested will have the option of making
contact to me through email or telephone (information is below with my email
signature).

With respect,

TD Bank sends letter to Pride Toronto

Dear Friends,

A leaked e-mail sent from TD Bank Financial Group to Pride Toronto reveals
that the premier corporate sponsor of the festival is finding
it "increasingly challenging" to continue its support for our Pride festival
following Pride Toronto's decision to listen to the community
and to rescind the censorship policy.

To see the leaked e-mail, and to send your own response to TD Bank Financial
Group, go to:

 <http://www.facebook.com/l/0e764;tinyurl.com/tps10>
http://www.facebook.com/l/0e764;tinyurl.com/tps10

It takes less than a minute to send a critically important message to
TD Bank in order to assert that we, the LGBT community, and not
corporate sponsors, will determine the direction and meaning of Pride.

Please, take a look at the leaked e-mail and send a message now!
