What will the world look like after neoliberalism? 2. What social and political structures and events will take us beyond neoliberalism? These are the two questions we will be addressing at the "Canada22: Envisioning Post-Neoliberalism Workshop" on Earth Day next month. Date: April 22, 2006 Time: 900am-400pm Location: Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre Campus Address: 515 West Hastings Street, Vancouver Website: http://dgiVista.org/Canada22 Why "Canada22"? Canada22 is thinking through to the 22nd century: ?Chiefs are required to consider the impact of their decisions on the seventh generation yet to come.? -The Great Law of Peace of the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy Who should attend? Anti-neoliberal Academics, Students, NGOs, Political and Social Groups, Political Parties, Individuals, Citizens, ?Consumers,? Labour, Alternative Media, Activists and First Peoples Confirmed Presenters: * Bryan Berndt, Vancouver ParEcon Collective * Rick Guenther, Abbotsford District Teachers' Association * Tina Marten, UBC-Okanagan, Sociology and Geography * Kevin Millsip, Check Your Head * Kevin Potvin, The Republic [of East Vancouver] Newspaper * Peter Prontzos, Langara College, Political Science * Ingo Schmidt, University of Northern BC, Economics * Chris Spannos, Vancouver ParEcon Collective * Harsha Walia, Local Activist and Writer * Tom Walker, Work Less Party Agenda for the day: We will address the first question in the morning and the second in the afternoon. Each half of the day will feature several presenters informally conveying their thoughts about the question to stimulate ideas as we move into small groups to address the issue. We will then re-form as a large group to share our findings. Goals for the day? We may develop a manifesto, position paper, or Magna Carta expressing our vision--or the beginning of a vision--for a post-neoliberal world. We may use this day to begin a discursive space to coordinate a response to neoliberalism. We may develop a movement or a pressure/lobby group. April 22, 2006 could be more than just a one-day workshop networking people together: it could be the beginning of what we need to do to fix our local, provincial, national and global economic system. Registration Information: http://dgiVista.org/Canada22 Pre-register now, join the pre-workshop preparatory discussion forums, and explore the pre-reading/viewing! Registration is also possible upon arrival on Saturday. Workshop Fee: $5-10 [sliding scale, payable at the workshop] Do you already have a vision for a post-neoliberal world? We are now accepting proposals for presentations addressing the first of the workshop questions.
