[van-discuss] Removal of Van-discuss mailing list

I am posting this to let people know that the Resist! Collective has come to a 
decision to terminate the list - van-discuss at lists.resist.ca.

Since the days of the tao-vancouver collective, we have alwys hosted a vancouver 
activist discussion list as a partner to the vancouver activist announcement list, 
which was intended to provide a forum for local people to discuss activist community 
projects and politics online....

Over the years it has served that purpose sporadically, and for the past year or two 
has lain almost entirely dormant. On average this list receives less than 5 
legit posts per month, and of those posts - most of them belong either on 
van-announce or our news list. Other than that we get upwards of 15 pieces of virus 
and spam mail to the queue per day which takes time and patience to clean out.

In addition, since 1997 when we started this list, many other lists have sprung to 
the fore for activist-discussion on specific topics. Resist! hosts many such mailing 
lists which can be perused here: https://lists.resist.ca/mailman/listinfo/

It is for these reasons (high work volume, low use-value, other services available) 
that we have decided to terminate this list.

For postings of announcements for the vancouver activist community, we encourage you 
to keep posting to van-announce at lists.resist.ca - and for news items, please email 
news at lists.resist.ca - these lists continue to serve as useful and relevant news 
sources to the local community.
