Building Bridges Human Rights Project in Latin America

Human Rights Observer Training for Chiapas, Mexico

Remembrance Day Weekend Training

When: Friday, November 8—Monday, November 11, 2002
Where: A camp in White Rock/South Surrey (shared cabins)
Cost: Sliding scale $30--$200 (includes all meals and accommodation)

We are looking for people interested in volunteering as Human Rights
Observers in Chiapas, Mexico, or interested in doing support work here
in Canada for observers.

How can I become a Human Rights Observer?
  You must:
- attend a Building Bridges Human Rights Observer Training
- speak conversational Spanish
- have at least three weeks available to work in Chiapas after
completing a Spanish
   immersion course (if necessary)

What happens at the weekend training?
  You will learn about:
- the role and function of a Human Rights Observer
-  how to identify a human rights violation
-  how to behave as a Human Rights Observer in a violent situation
- the history of the current political situation in Chiapas and the
Zapatista movement

Human Rights Observers who have recently worked in Chiapas lead the
training.
