BLACK&PROUD: A Celebration of Blackness

Friday, February 26
at 5 PM - 7 PM
Location TBA (UBC, UNCEDED MUSQUEAM TERRITORY)

We invite you all to come join us for an evening of Black celebration,
consciousness-raising, and healing as Black History Month (officially)
comes to an end. Our aim is to provide a platform where Black voices
can be centred, resistance can be nurtured, and inter-POC solidarity
can be strengthened!

This celebration of Blackness will be divided into three parts:
1) An open-dialogue panel featuring a soon to be announced professor
focusing on the importance of learning about Black history
2) Creativity & Resistance: various performances by wonderful artists
and creators and a short film
3) Engagement: Providing a platform to open up spaces for meaningful
discussion and much needed conversations around race and racism here
at UBC (Formal & Informal)

If you would like to perform (sing, dance, spoken word, create art,
etc.), please contact Blessing Olukemi Falayi~

Light food and beverage (vegan options included) will be provided!

Feel free to get in ~*~*Formation*~*~, AKA celebrate your Blackness in
any way you see fit. This is our night! And if you are an ally, please
celebrate with us by listening and learning. We hope to see you all
there! Bring a friend or 2 or 8!!

-- Our location is to be announced and accessibility information will
be attached!

This event is done in collaboration with Colour Connected Against
Racism, and is meant to promote inter-POC solidarity and allyship in
order to build a healthy and strong community for students of colour
on this campus.

****We acknowledge that this event is taking place on the traditional,
ancestral, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəyəm (Musqueam) Nation.
With this knowledge, we understand that as Black settlers our history
is intertwined with an ongoing Canadian colonial project. We hope to
take the necessary steps forward in decolonizing this celebration of
Blackness by acknowledging this reality.*******
