Radical Desi will be organizing a forum on the current anti immigration
policies of the right wing Conservative government on September 6, 2014
from noon to 3 pm at Firehall Center for the Arts (11489-84th Avenue,
Delta)

Dedicated to the centenary of Bhai Bhaag Singh's assassination, the event
is being planned to educate the community about draconian immigration
laws, such as Bill C 24 (Stealing Citizenship Act), the assault on family
sponsorships, cutbacks in the refugee healthcare and increasing
deportations.

Peter Edelmann - who is an immigration and refugee lawyer on the executive
committee of the Canadian Bar Association’s Immigration Law Section will
be the guest speaker. He will be making an extensive presentation on these
issues following which questions will be taken from the floor about the
changes and impacts on our families and communities.

Bhai Bhaag Singh was a towering leader of the South Asian community in
Vancouver. He was in the forefront of the struggle for right to bring
families and other social justice campaigns against racism. Following the
Komagata Maru episode he was shot to death by Bela Singh, a government spy
working for William Hopkinson inside the Vancouver Sikh temple on
September 5, 1914.

The fight for equality and justice that was started by our elders 100
years ago still continues. To keep this struggle alive Radical Desi wants
to mark the centenary of his assassination with a forum on similar
challenges in the contemporary world.
