Mining Justice Week - May 14-19

The Mining Justice Alliance, a grassroots network of activists and
organizations, is planning a week of action, art and education from May
14-19 to bring attention to the social and environmental impacts of
Vancouver-based mining companies.
More and more Canadians are raising
concerns over the impacts of mining, in solidarity with affected
communities. We feel a responsibility to hold these transnational firms
accountable, considering most of us are invested in them through our
contributions to the Canada Pension Plan.
Please join us as we speak out
against:
- destruction of indigenous land without community consent
-
water and air pollution affecting local residents' health
- powerful
blasting that damages homes
- loss of wildlife and biodiversity
-
violence and threats against community members who speak out
- lack of
accountability of Canadian transnationals operating abroad
Local events
here on Coast Salish Territory (Vancouver, BC) are being coordinated with
an international solidarity network that includes communities affected by
mining in lands now known as Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Chile, and
Canada. Each of these communities are sending delegations to join us for
Mining Justice Week.
