Vancouver Co-operative Radio, CFRO, 102.7 FM is a non-profit,
listener-supported, multi-lingual community station that has provided
Vancouver with alternative public affairs, music and arts programming since
1975. Co-op Radio provides a space for under-represented voices and
perspectives. The Director of Technical Services is responsible for
broadcast and audio production-related equipment in the station as well as
for co-ordinating technical trainings and overseeing the production of Media
Arts. This is a permanent part-time position in a staff collective
responsible to, and under the limited direction of, the Board of Directors.

*HOURS:          *15- 20 hours/week (depending on skills), scheduling of
hours is flexible
*DEADLINE:      *Wed Aug 10th, 2011 at 10am.
*WAGE:            *$20.36/hr with generous medical and vacation benefits.
Unionized with CAW 3000.

*START DATE:  *Week of Sept 6th, 2011.

*KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY*


*Ensure a high quality consistent broadcast signal, by:*
-       Doing basic maintenance of broadcast-related equipment at the
station
-       Responding to and managing technical emergencies
-       Maintaining online broadcasting, including streaming and archives
-       Liaising with transmitter maintenance contractor, as required
-       Co-ordinating major repairs and upgrades of broadcast-related
equipment, as required
-       Overseeing the long-term planning of station’s technical needs
including budgeting and inventory

*Ensure effective functioning and use of station’s IT resources, by:*

-          Doing basic maintenance of station computer systems **
-          Maintaining website and archiving capabilities including CRTC
programming logs
-          Co-ordinating major computer repairs and upgrades, as required
-          Maintaining other office equipment **

*IT resources include: LAN; office and public access computers; printers and
peripherals; servers.***

* *
*Ensure effective training and technical support to programmers, by:*
-          Co-ordinating technical trainings including content and manuals
-          Supporting programmers’ technical needs
-          Co-ordinating access to required equipment for off-site use
-          Maintaining production-related equipment
-          Co-ordinating major repairs and upgrades of production-related
equipment, as required

*Technical trainings include: control room operator trainings; portable
recorders; remote broadcasting; production room; podcasting and archiving.*



*Coordinate the production of Media Arts, by,*

-       Co-ordinating the Media Arts Committee (MAC) including Artist In
Residence program, CD production and commissioned works
-          Co-ordinating workshops, training and support for work in
production studio
-          Conducting technical trainings in production studio
-          Preparing grants and ensuring that that all media arts grant
requirements are met
-          Managing other media arts related initiatives, as required**

*Collective Duties*
*Staff members work as a collective and meet regularly to exchange
information and prioritize the below shared tasks:* -          Facilitate
communications within the station; maintain station premises and
records -
Support the participation of programmers and volunteers within the
station -
Support the Board of Directors by: assisting with Board meetings, Board
development and recruitment; working with the Board on organizational
development; sitting on organizational committees** -          Support the
financial capacity of the organization by: implementing the station’s
fundraising plan and supporting the development of project grants -
Represent the organization to the membership by: co-ordinating the AGM and
the production of annual reports -          Participate in the staff
collective and manage the staff by: managing personnel issues; supporting
the development of the staff collective; attending regular staff meetings



*QUALIFICATIONS*

-          High level of proficiency with technology, including excellent
computer and technical skills

-          Excellent technical problem solving skills, using logic and
process of elimination

-          Familiarity with professional recording studio environments

-          Knowledge of setting up audio systems and of basic recording &
playback chains

-          Computer repair and networking

-          Experience with Mac and PC operating systems including OS X and
Windows XP**

-          Experience with Ubuntu/Linux and FreeBSD an asset**

-          Experience with creating and maintaining websites using CMS (e.g.
Drupal, Wordpress)

-          High level functionality with Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
editing systems such as Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live and Audacity

-          Interest in sound art and/or electronic music

-          Experience with, and interest in, community broadcast media,
preferably radio

-          Interest and experience working in a supportive/training capacity
with a diverse population

-          Experience and interest in working in a collective setting, able
to work effectively as a team member

-          Community-based organizational development experience: planning,
co-ordinating, working with volunteers, ability to translate vision into
action, understand budget/finances, prioritize and delegate tasks

-          Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: clear written
and verbal communication, conflict resolution, ability to openly give and
accept feedback, ability to dialogue with diverse parties

-          Excellent time-management skills; ability to be self-directed and
efficient, with minimal supervision
