Rally in Support of Democracy in Egypt & Tunisia
Saturday Jan 29 @ 1:00p
Vancouver Public Library, Robson Side (Robson @ Homer)
Members of the local Egyptian and Tunisian communities will be joined by allies and supporters of democracy at a rally this Saturday, January 29, 1pm outside the central branch of the Vancouver Public Library (Robson Street at Homer).
Massive protests are expected in Egypt Friday despite severe government
repression. Solidarity rallies are planned in Ottawa, Toronto,
Montreal, Vancouver and other Canadian cities on Friday and Saturday.
"The Egyptian government has been very brutal and aggressive in dealing
with protesters. Eight protesters have been killed so far," said Ibrahim
Gadala, a member of the Egyptian Canadian Cultural Society.
“We will be joining members of the Tunisian and Egyptian Diaspora and
other supporters in rallying to support the movement for democracy in
the region which has inspired the whole world,” said Dr. Younes Alila, a
UBC Professor.
