Conference Announcement:  Tragedy of the Market:  From Crisis to Commons

Today we are facing a crisis of market fundamentalism that is plundering
the earth, imposing austerity, and displacing people off the land. And as
the yawning gap between the rich and the poor grows, we see people in
every corner of the world rising up against these manifest injustices.

We are inspired by this indignant moment, but we also want to ask what is
beyond our collective “no!” to austerity, dispossession and ecocide. We
want to ask how can we create new alternatives that the elite tell us do
not exist? What kinds of alternatives do we find if we look around our
world and into our pasts? A gathering is being organized that seeks to
find common connections by discussing and remembering resistance in order
to recognize the alternatives.

CEOs are dreaming of owning everything on the planet – what are we
dreaming of?
