Upcoming Event: EYA Community Hive Project and Means of Production Artist's
Raw Resource Collective Tea Party

Come and find out what you can do in your everyday life to help bees!
Participants of the Environmental Youth Alliance's Community Hive Project
will be attending a tea party at a local community garden to spread
awareness about our pollinator friends. Learn about mason bees, the
importance of all insects, bee friendly plants that you can grow, the
importance of buying local honey, how pollen can improve your health and
more! The teachers of the Community Hive project, Brian Campbell and
Sheilagh McKenna, will also be in attendance. Not only are they very
dedicated beekeepers, but they are also walking bee encyclopedias.

The Means of Production Artist’s Raw Resource Collective (MOPARRC) also
hosting this event. Enjoy the new shade structures made by community while
sipping tea brewed from herbs in the MOP tea bed and served from the crochet
tent. Wear your garden hat with the widest brim! Performances by the Legion
of Flying Monkeys with The MOPARRC Community Pan Flute band. Have a garden
tour of the work grown on site by David Gowman and Pierre Leichner. The
poster is attached.

When: August 28th, 1 – 4 pm
Where: Means of Production Community Garden, North China Creek Park, Corner
of St Catherine Street and East 6th Avenue
*Note: The garden has uneven terrain

The EYA Community Hive Program is an annual beekeeping program for youth,
focusing on natural and organic practices to maintain the health of the two
colonies at our Means of Production garden. This program is facilitated by
the Environmental Youth Alliance.

MOPARRC (Means of Production Artist Raw Resource Collective) is a collective
of artists that activate the Means of Production (MOP) Garden and engage
community with the materials that grow there. Three artists with a variety
of approaches to community engagement make the MOP garden a hotbed of
diverse eco-cultural activity. Lori Weidenhammer's apicultural installation
and bee-centric performances merge citizen science, agriculture, and
folklore with performative actions. Sharon Kallis involves community in
re-purposing invasive or unwanted organic materials to create collaborative
materials-based site specific installations using traditional hand based
techniques. David Gowman creates musical instruments from what grows nearby
and engages community in participatory musical experiences. For more info on
