NO PIPELINE! PROTEST OUTSIDE ENBRIDGE’S COCKTAIL PARTY
Tuesday Sept. 28th @ 6:30 pm
Location: Carleton Lodge (under covered area), across from the Lululemon Store, Mountain Square (in Main Village at base of ski lifts),Whistler, BC
In solidarity with communities fighting the Enbridge Pipeline from the Tar Sands to the BC Coast.
Enbridge is attempting to drum up support with municipalities for their controversial pipeline by hosting a cocktail reception during the Union of BC Municipalities Annual General Meeting.
The Enbridge pipeline would carry tar sands crude oil from Alberta to Kitimat and the coastal waters of BC. The pipeline is estimated to cross over 1000 rivers and streams and would result in tanker traffic through the Douglas Channel putting the sensitive eco-system in jeopardy. Much of the pipeline route, and the entire oil tanker route, are through lands and waters where First Nations have never signed treaties with Canada.
Indigenous communities have clearly said that they do not want this pipeline through their territories. People campaigning against Enbridge are also standing in solidarity with indigenous people in Alberta who are seeing their lands devastated from the development of the Tar Sands, the most environmentally devastating project in human history. The Gateway Pipeline would infringe on the title and rights of indigenous communities along the pipeline route, provide infrastructure for the expansion of tar sands development and completely undermine any attempts to address the climate crisis.

THE BEAUTIFUL UNRAVELING: FREE DIVERSITY TRAININGS FOR ORGANIZATIONS AND GRASSROOTS GROUPS
The Transformative Communities Project is offering FREE capacity building workshops for organizations and grassroots groups serving diverse communities in the GVRD between October and December 2010 .
The Beautiful Unraveling is a unique training that brings together elements of arts-based empowerment, diversity training, and community building. The length can be tailored to suit your organization's needs.
It can sometimes be difficult for people to bridge their differences and foster empathic listening and empowering relationships. Politically correct policies can change the image of an organization, but without training and experience at the level of the individual, the impact on the community does not change. This training specifically strengthens the ability to build understanding across difference.
This training offers an opportunity for individuals to:
• promote compassion and empathy
• have difficult conversations in a creative way
• name the forces that affect our lives
• understand personal influence and response-ability
• promote organizational capacity to do the above
This training emerges from the learning of The Surrey Urban Youth Project (SUYP). The trainers (mia amir and Nadia Chaney) are committed, experienced and interested in supporting the important work of your organization or group.
To book a workshop, or for more information please email nadia at suyp.org or call mia amir at 604 780 8463 .
