Are you a non-profit or grassroots community organization with no time or money for research?
Put the world of academia to work for you.
Have an SFU student volunteer their research, video production, graphic design,
business planning, or communication skills and make your social or environmental project a reality.
The Action Research eXchange (ARX) Program is looking for research proposals for the 2009-2010 academic year.
How does ARX work?
Action Research eXchange (ARX) is a program of the Simon Fraser Public Interest Research Group (SFPIRG), a non-profit student-run social justice organization based at Simon Fraser University.
ARX facilitates connections between community organizations that need research but have limited resources, with SFU students who can take on that research for
course credit. More than 100 research projects oriented towards social and environmental justice have been completed since ARX was created in 2004.
Who can apply? We welcome project proposal submissions from non-profit organizations and grassroots community groups.
How to apply?
Project proposals are submitted online through www.sfpirg.ca/arx/appl y
It is strongly recommended that you read the Guidelines for Submitting a Research Proposal before you fill out the Application Form , both of which are available online at www.sfpirg.ca/arx/appl y
We accept proposals on an ongoing basis. However, if you would like your project available for students in the Fall 2009 semester, the deadline is Wednesday, July 15, 2009.
• Priority will be given to the following issues for the academic year 2009-2010: seniors’ issues; queer studies; disability; labour issues; international issues; education; ethnicity/race studies; indigenous rights; housing; child and youth issues.
• Priority will be given to projects that are more accessible to undergraduate students . While a variety of project types are desirable and certainly not discouraged, priority will be given to formal research, organizational development and creative projects. The overwhelming majority of students we are able to attract are undergraduate students so projects that fit their skill sets are more likely to get matched.
• Priority will be given to community organizations that do not currently have a project posted with ARX. We want to ensure that as wide a range of community organizations have access to the program.
