Speak out against the lack of dental coverage
Share Your Stories! Speak Out!
At the May 9 March and Rally for Social and Economic Justice in BC the Alliance for People’s Health will be leading a ‘Speak Out’ action at a walk-in dental clinic on Commercial Drive. This ‘Speak Out’ will be an opportunity for us to make public our struggles and experiences with the lack of dental coverage in BC and how it impacts our health, our lives and our dignity.
Join us on Tuesday May 5 to make a placard that tells your story!

A Benefit Concert with Paco Padilla and friends for the Indigenous and Street Kids of Guadalajara, Mexico
Paco Padilla, singer and songwriter from Guadalajara, Mexico will be performing
Saturday, May 9 at 8 pm and Sunday, May 10 at 7 pm
at El Rancho Restaurant 112 Kingsway (at Broadway)
in a fundraiser for the Mexican orphanage
Dulce Camino (Sweet Road).
Tickets are $15 in advance $20 at the door.
Paco is an ambassador of urban Mexican songs in the tradition of Chava
Flores and Piporro. In the style of ancient troubadours with guitar in
hand Paco has performed throughout Europe and Asia and the United
States. Songs range from authentic poems of daily life to political
ecological and social commentaries.
Raul Rodriguez, Sheila Rios and Enrique Ortiz, will be performing with
Paco Padilla at this fund-raising event for the indigenous and street
kids of Guadalajara. Join us for an evening of song and of hope!
The Dulce Camino is a Mexican charitable foundation that works hard to
protect the street kids of Guadalajara. The Dulce Camino helps the
poorest of the poor by providing food, shelter,medical attention and therapy.

Economy, and Lasting Happiness. She has been a
visiting scholar at Stanford University where she
received her doctorate in education. A former
community college administrator, she now works
with community groups to explore the issue of
living lives that are sustainable, just, and
joyful.

First Nations Storyteller-in-residence
Call for applications
The Vancouver Public Library is seeking a First Nations Storyteller-in-Residence
in order to promote story as a way of sharing culture and building memory.
The Storyteller position will provide a valuable link between the Library and the
First Nations community as a way to honour First Nations culture and to build
trust. The Storyteller will also help to bring together First Nations and non-First
Nations people to promote intercultural understanding and communication.
The Library would like to hear from you if you are:
• An experienced First Nations storyteller in Canada.
• Committed to developing, presenting and sharing your talent, knowledge and culture.
• Enthusiastic about helping others develop the art of storytelling.
• Available on a full-time basis in Vancouver between September and December 2009.
Contract terms: $17,000 for four months full-time activity ($4,250 per month) on a self-employed basis. Applications must be received by 5 p.m.
