In celebration of Black Histroy Month, please join Colour Connected
Against Racism as we reflect on the remarkable life of Malcolm X. Born
in Omaha, Nebraska in 1925, Malcolm X came to be a leader in the
struggle for civil rights in the United States. He went on to travel
widely, converted to Islam, and adopted the name El-Hajj Malik
El-Shabazz. He became a symbol of resistance against all kinds of
oppression, but especially against racial and colonial violence. Even
44 years after his death he continues to be a source of radical
inspiration to oppressed people around the world.
Movie:
**Malcolm X: Make it Plain**
Political philosopher and visionary, husband and father, dynamic
orator and militant minister, Malcolm X was both loved and despised,
revered and feared – until an assassin’s bullet cut him down in 1965.
This video is an in-depth film portrait that goes straight to the
heart, the mind and the message of one of the modern era’s most
complex figures. His story is told through the memories of people who
had close personal and working relationships with Malcolm X, from
prominent figures, to Nation of Islam associates, to Malcolm’s own
family members. Also included is extensive footage of Malcolm X,
speaking in his own words at meetings, rallies and in media
interviews.
**Followed by a discussion**
Light refreshments will be served.
