DIRECT ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE - NOW IS THE TIME!
SHUT DOWN THE GATEWAY TO CLIMATE CHAOS

In March of this year 2,500 people participated in an act of civil disobedience <http://www.capitolclimateaction.org/> that temporarily blocked the entrances to a coal plant in Washington DC.

On the first day of the Copenhagen Climate Talks a local group, including UBC professor Patrick Condon, will commit a similar action in British Columbia. It will be directed at the controversial GATEWAY PROGRAM, a massive highway-expansion project that would increase greenhouse gases by over 170,000 tonnes per year in a sector that is already the largest source of emissions in our region.

The Gateway Program is linked to a larger Pacific Gateway strategy that includes pipelines to the Alberta Tar Sands, Canada's largest point source of greenhouse gas emissions. Cars and trucks in BC already burn fuel made from tar sands bitumen, and the proportion of this dirty tar sands fuel in our gas tanks is increasing.

Join us as we stage an occupation to shut down a Gateway Program construction site in East Vancouver, and send a clear message to our Prime Minister and the BC Government that GATEWAY=CLIMATE CHAOS. The people demand action NOW!

We need front-line activists as well as sideline supporters, to rally with us and cheer on the revolution! No one will ever be asked to act beyond their interest or comfort level. Men, women, children, people of all ages and socio-economic stripes - we need to hear your voice; this is our common future.

When: Monday, December 7th, 7:30 PM
