Stop the War in Afghanistan Now! Over a dozen protests across Canada planned for Oct. 18-19

The Canadian electoral system has failed to register the will of the
the people who, in their majority, want to see an end to the war in
Afghanistan.

It is too early to predict exactly how this parliament will function,
but the Liberal and Conservative parties still hold a dominant position
in the house which will likely result in ongoing parliamentary support
for the war. That means, at least, another 900 days of killing both
Afghan civilians and Canadian soldiers. We may also see a reversal on
Stephen Harper's commitment to a fixed end date of 2011.

All this comes amid a crisis in Afghanistan where civilian deaths are
at the highest
levels since the invasion of 2001. There is also a renewed
offensive by the resistance movements which will likely result in
more air strikes and civilian deaths.

The argument from Stephen Harper
that Canada's role is to help build the Afghan armed forces is also
crumbling as defections
from the Afghan army are on the rise. The war is lost for the west.
The only question that remains is how many more innocent people will be
killed before they realize the folly of their actions.

We will have to stop this war by building a mass movement that will
force Stephen Harper to end the bloodshed.

Please see: www.acp-cpa.ca for
event listings and resources for the Oct. 18-19 weekend of action against war across Canada.
