Support Bolivian Democracy!
Report back and Fundraiser by the Bolivia Solidarity Committee

***************************************

Friday, October 10th
7pm
Socialist Education Centre
706 Clark Drive(and Georgia St)

*****************************************

The government of Evo Morales and social movements in Bolivia are
currently under attack by right wing and US-backed destabilizing
forces. These elite and corporate interests seek to overturn the
massive gains made over the last three years by popular struggle and
the Morales led government. It is a crucial time in Bolivia, and it is
vital for us to show our solidarity with the poor majority in
Bolivia, who have demonstrated ongoing strong support for Evo Morales
and his government.

Join us for this urgently needed discussion about the latest events
that have taken place in Bolivia. All funds raised will go towards
further organizing in Vancouver in support of Bolivia's democratic
process.

Bolivian democracy will not be defeated! For President Evo, against
the media coup!

Panel discussion with special guest, Ann Catherine Bajard, who just
returned from Bolivia

Documentary premiere "Dancing with Evo", followed by traditional
Bolivian folkdancing and music.

Speakers:

Ann Catherine Bajard lived in Bolivia from 1987 to 2002, working in
support of human and collective rights, and in particular with the
organized indigenous movement since 1996. She returns to Bolivia on a
yearly basis, and was there this year (2008) from Sept. 15th to 23rd,
shortly following the massacre in the department of Pando, and
throughout the government's first steps in negotiating with the
opposition governnors. Ann Catherine's main interest in speaking about
Bolivia is to promote the understanding that the indigenous and most
marginalized populations of Bolivia have been working for decades to
build a system that would best represent their interests -today
Bolivia is not simply the result of the 2005 elections; it is rather
the 2005 elections which are a result of decades of work and struggle
by organized movements. Soidarity is a mutual matter, and the present
processes in Bolivia should be seen within a globalized context, as a
hope for other nations across the world.

Adriana Paz is a Vancouver based Bolivian activist and journalist.
She has over 10 years of experience working on social justice issues
with a diverse group of grass roots movements, specially with peasant
co ops and indigenous women in rural and urban areas in Bolivia. She
has a Communications degree and solid background as community radio
broadcaster, columnist for Bolivian newspapers and magazines, popular
educator and social researcher on immigrant/migrant issues.
