Picket the U.S. Consulate on the 5th anniversary ofthe Iraq War!

Wednesday, March 19, 11am to 1pmat the U.S. Consulate (1075 W. Pender, at Thurlow)

Five years ago this week, the U.S. administration
launched their so-called “Shock and Awe” military
attack against Iraq. On this terrible anniversary,
anti-war activists in Vancouver will respond with
“CHALK AND AWE,” expressing our horror on the
sidewalks around the U.S. Consulate on Wednesday,
March 19, beginning at 11 am.

The Bush regime promised to find Saddam Hussein’s
“weapons of mass destruction” and to bring peace and
democracy to the Iraqi people. The results were indeed
shocking… and utterly appalling. The justifications
for the war have long been exposed as lies. Up to a
million Iraqis have died as a result of the US-UK war
and occupation. Iraq’s economic and social
infrastructure are in ruins, and millions of its
citizens are now internal exiles or have fled the
country.

The US and its allies have wasted a stunning $3
trillion dollars on this war, with no end in sight.
Over 4000 US troops have been killed, and tens of
thousands badly wounded. Drawn into the war in
neighbouring Afghanistan to support the US military
campaign, Canada has joined other NATO countries in
killing thousands of Afghan civilians in bombing
raids.

To express our horror at this unending catastrophe,
the StopWar.ca peace coalition and its partners in
Canadians Against War will chalk the sidewalks with
our anti-war messages outside the U.S. Consulate (1095
West Pender, at Thurlow), starting at 11 am,
Wednesday, March 19 - the fifth anniversary of the
U.S. bombing raids which began the war.
