Anti Colonial Migrant Justice Films and Discussion:
REFLECTING ON OUR SOCIAL MOVEMENTS -
Understanding the Struggle of Laibar Singh and Migrant Justice
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
THURSDAY MARCH 13 @ 6:30 PM
VIVO MEDIA ARTS CENTRE
1965 Main Street, corner 4th Avenue (formerly Video-Inn)
FREE!
* 6:30 pm: Film footage from the 2002 mass break-out from an Austrailian
detention centre, the 2003 occupation of the Immigration Minister's
offices by non-status Algerians, and the December 2007 mass blockade at
Vancouver International Airport to stop the deportation of Laibar Singh.
* 7:30 pm: The films will be followed by an open discussion for grassroots
activists and community organizers about the significance of migrant
justice resistance within our social movements. We hope to engage in a
dialogue about community organizing, direct actions, migrant justice &
communities of colour-based resistance and the relationship of
such movements within the broader struggle for social and economic justice.
Sponsored by VIVO Media Arts.
Organized by Communities for Laibar Singh-Vancouver.

Extensive background: http://supportlaibar.blogspot.com.
Communities for Laibar Singh- Vancouver was formed in January 2008 to
support the campaign for Laibar Singh to permanently stay in Canada, to
counter the misinformation being circulated by various media outlets, and
to organize against the backlash against the South Asian community. We
came together primarily as people outside of the Punjabi and Sikh
communities, inspired by the strength and solidarity that has been shown
by those communities.
