Lydia Cacho Ribeiro is a professional journalist and writer in Mexico as well as
a leading feminist and defender of human rights.  She came to wide public
attention in 2004 with the publication of her book, The Demons of Eden: the
power behind child pornography, which documented her research into child
pornography, sexual tourism and child prostitution in Cancun. The book included
the names of powerful politicians and businessmen who are involved in the
exploitation and abuse of minors.  As a result, she was later kidnapped,
tortured and jailed and although she took her case against her perpetrators as
far as the Supreme Court, harassment and intimidation against her continues to
this day.
However, her struggle for justice also continues at the national and
international levels. She is a member of the International Network of
Journalists with a Gender Vision and currently has a weekly column in the
Mexican daily El Universal. She is also one of the founders of CIAM, the Centro
Integral de Atención a las Mujeres in Cancun, a crisis centre and shelter for
women and children who are victims of domestic and/or sexual violence. 
Lydia’s professional ethics, courage and dignity have resulted in important
national and international awards and recognition.

Lydia Cacho Ribeiro, periodista y escritora de profesión, destacada feminista y
activista de derechos humanos en México. Pertenece a La Red Internacional de
Periodistas con Visión de Género. Actualmente tiene una columna semanal en el
periódico El Universal,  y  es una de las fundadoras del Centro Integral de
Atención a las Mujeres, CIAM Cancún A.C. centro especializado de atención a
mujeres, niñas y niños victimas de violencia doméstica y/o sexual. Durante
muchos años ha trabajado diversos medios de comunicación en el estado de
Quintana Roo, México. Lydia salió a la luz pública a raíz de la  publicación su
libro Los Demonios del Edén. Este libro es una investigación documentada sobre
el tema la pornografía infantil, el turismo sexual y la prostitución infantil.
El libro contiene testimonios de algunas las victimas que ponen al descubierto
una amplia red de pederastas. En su libro aparecen nombres de  poderosos
políticos y empresarios involucrados Posteriormente fue secuestrada, torturada,
encarcelada. Su caso llegó hasta  la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación,
SCJN, pero hasta el día de hoy Lydia continua siendo acosada y perseguida. Sin
embargo, su batalla por la justicia  continúa y se ha ido al plano
internacional. Lydia  se distingue  por su ética profesional, valentía y
dignidad; además de que se ha hecho acreedora de importantes premios y
reconocimientos tanto nacionales como internacionales.
