*'Tuhoe - A History of Resistance' Film Screening*
** **
*August 30th 2008, 7pm*
*Spartacus Books - 684 East Hastings*
*Entry by koha/donation*
This film provides an account of Maori and more specifically the Tuhoe
nation's struggle against colonialism in Aotearoa/New Zealand. In addition
the film provides context for the state terror raids of October 15th 2007
which saw Maori rights activists taken at gun point as the state attempted
to charge them under Aotearoa/New Zealand's post 9/11 anti-terrorism laws.
The state failed to convince an independent reviewer that the actions of
the accused amounted to terrorism however to save face, the state is
pursuing convictions on fire arms charges, some of the accused facing
extended prison sentences.
The 30th August is the international day of action for the arrestees and
all funds raised will go to support their defence.

"John Borroughs has stated that experimental study of animals in captivity
is absolutely useless. Their character, their habits, their appetites
undergo a complete transformation when torn from their soil in field and
forest. With human nature caged in a narrow space, whipped daily into
submission, how can we speak of its potentialities?"
