Dear Friends and Supporters,				June 2007

For the past ten months the Anti-Poverty Committee has been at the
forefront of the struggle against poverty, homelessness and the Olympics
in Vancouver and has set an example of resistance that is gaining momentum
and respect across the country. For the most part, APC carries on this
work on the basis of many small single donations from people like you who
continue to support the work we are doing.

We are acutely aware that, if APC is to develop and expand its work as it
must, we have to find the means to regularize our intake of donations.
Continued organizing against the brutality of the Olympics and the
continuos hotel closures and lack of any new housing will require steady
political and financial support.

Over the summer months we will be launching into our civil city campaign,
as we challenge the draconian policies brought in by the municipal
government and brutally enforced by the Vancouver Police Department. In
the fall of 2007 we are planning the first regional convergence and
speaking tour around the Olympics and its impact on community. We will
also be continuing our housing offensive as we work with other
organizations and groups in the community to pressure all levels of
government for more housing. As well, we are continuing our campaign of
advocacy inside the hotels and against slum landlords, as well as case
work around squeegee, panhandling and safe street act tickets.

In an effort to secure the resources we need for this work, we are
launching an APC call for support - a program to encourage monthly
donations from supporters to ensure the work of APC continues. If you wish
to support us, there are a few easy options, monthly cheque’s, one-time
donations, post dated cheques, and finally we will be setting up a direct
payment option to make the support process efficient. If one hundred
supporters donated $20 a month, this would assist our organizing efforts
considerably. We thank you for your support.

In a fair fight, APC would have the same resources as the governments and
cops have been able to throw against us. As it is, we struggle from month
to month to pay our rent and we can only turn to those who stand in
solidarity with our fight against poverty. If you can help give us the
funding base we need to move forward with that fight, please sign up for
the APC supporters program and encourage others to follow your example.
