Vancouver DIY folksinger Joey Only will leave his OUTLAW BAND
behind and join up with his friends GERTRUDE throughout Western
Canada before he goes to Ontario and Quebec and September.

Well who is Gertrude? Started in 1997 - Gertrude was spawned
in the London underground scene out of a frustration at the
lack of credible female musicians and role models. The initial
impetus for early Gertrude sounds was DIY punk rock and riot
grrrl energy.

It’s punk, but not as we know it! The Gertrude vibe is upbeat
and inspirational. Gertrude's music is agit- prop post-punk.
The live show is intense, rhythmic and always entertaining.
The addition of electric cello, melodica and clarinet add
interweaving colourful layers. Gertrude’s lyrics critique the
world we live in and often have a socially conscious but also
humorous slant.

and it’s impossible not to bounce and smile and be happy at a

Gertrude work as a collective and do things their own way.
They have toured in Europe and America and played at many
International Lady fests. They are keen supporters of the DIY
music and cultural scene.

Gertrude have released two albums, on their own label, Urban
Missfits. “Fetch The Parrot Blanket”, (2006) includes the
track “Jello from The Sky” which appeared on the Peace Not
War compilation (2003-2004) alongside artists such as Jane’s
Addiction, Sonic Youth, Faithless and Ani Difranco.
Gertrude’s music is available to buy online from cdbaby.com and
in UK music shops from October 2007.

Gertrude have supported some big names in Underground music
including Ari Up’s The Slits, Nomeansno, Fugazi and Shellac.
Plans for this year include a tour of West Canada in August
with The Joey Only (Canadian anarcho country folk) and a tenth
birthday party in London, November 2007 to coincide with the
launch of a third album. October will see them Playing at the
London ICA at a punk rock robotics event! To listen to some
