Remember to register by Monday, September 25th!
Calling all women interested in organizing for genuine women's liberation!
Looking for information about women's resistance to systemic oppression and
exploitation?
Searching for a more hands-on approach to women's studies that will help you
to engage in action for change?
This fall, Grassroots Women will be offering a popular education course
examining the roots of women's exploitation and oppression under
imperialism. Drawing on Grassroots Women's 11 years of experience educating,
organizing, and mobilizing working class women, this 12-week course will
provide participants with the opportunity to develop a comprehensive
understanding that will act as a base for grassroots organizing for genuine
women's liberation. Participants will apply their knowledge by engaging in
action toward this goal, and we will also reflect on the lessons learned
through such action.
When: Every Sunday afternoon from 2:00 - 5:00, starting on October 1st and
ending on December 17th, 2006. Deadline for application: Monday, September
25th.
Where: The Grassroots Women office, 1115B E. Hastings Street (entrance on
Glen Street)
Who can participate?
Women who want to learn more about women's exploitation and resistance and
who want to do something about it are welcome to participate, provided they
can commit to attending for the entire course.
Sounds great! I'm interested in participating, but I'm not sure I can attend
all the sessions.
We understand that the realities of working class women's lives make it
difficult to commit to this sustained course of study; however, we are
asking that participants commit to the entire course in order to allow us to
build on successive sessions and to develop a collective connection among
participants. Participants will be asked to notify the group in advance if
there are sessions they are unable to attend due to previous commitments and
to keep up with the reading and activities from sessions missed as a result
of illness or other reasons. If this particular commitment is not
compatible with your life, please contact us to find out about other ways
that you can become involved in Grassroots Women.
Can I bring my kids?
Certainly! Our office is a child-friendly space. Children's activities will
be provided in the adjoining kids' room, and we would also welcome their
participation in the course. We believe that a mother's place is in the
struggle, and a child's place is by her side!
Is there a cost for the course or any materials?
A $30 fee for current Grassroots Women members, or $50 for non-members, will
help to support the organization by offsetting the cost of the course and
materials. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. All materials will
be provided at no extra cost.
