with filmmaker, writer and scholar Sobhi al-Zobaidi*


  Drawing on examples of filmmaking from dispersed communities, this
presentation will discuss the notion of space in new Palestinian cinema
to offer an insider's perspective on Palestinians' relationship with
space, or whatever is left for them to call 'space.'

  Sobhi al-Zobaidi was born in Jerusalem, 1961, grew up in al-Jalazone
refugee camp in the West Bank. Educated at Birzeit university and New
York university, between 1995 and 2005 he worked in Palestine as an
independent filmmaker, writer and teacher. He is currently working on
his Ph.D at SFU.
