* JAGGI SINGH is a writer, independent journalist and activist based in
Montreal. He is an organizer with No One Is Illegal-Montreal and the
International Solidarity Movement. He has been active in organizing
against capitalist globalization, as well as current movements against war
and racism, and for self-determination and genuine solidarity. Jaggi will
present on Anarchism without the Anarchists, looking at anarchism as
practiced within social movements. Drawing specifically from contemporary
organizing within immigrant rights movements (such as No One Is Illegal
and Solidarity Across Borders), as well as solidarity organizing with
broader struggles, this presentation will put forward a vision of
anarchism as practiced within social movements, in contrast to so-called
anarchism that is separated from social movements.
* RAUL GATICA is an Indigenous Mixteco from Oaxaca, Mexico and organizer
and defender of human rights with CIPO-RFM (Consejo Indigena Popular de
Oaxaca Ricardo Flores Magon) who has survived arbitrary detentions,
numerous assassination attempts and torture while in Mexico. The CIPO-RFM
is a Magonista organization in Oaxaca, Mexico that uses non-violent
resistance with mutual support as our base; and solidarity, direct action,
and autonomy as our path to liberation. We stand for peaceful coexisting
autonomous self-sufficient communities.
* JILL CHETTIAR is an anti-poverty organiser with the Anti-Poverty
Committee, Downtown Eastside Residents Association, and is an active
supporter of Sex Workers United Against Violence. She has been involved in
facilitating and supporting tent cities, the 327 unofficial safe
injection site, and other campaigns that fight for the dignity for poor
people in the Downtown Eastside.
