FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SHINE THE LIGHT -- a call to witness in a time of war
You are invited to help continue the important work of Canadians Jim Loney and Harmeet Sooden who, along with two other peace workers, went missing in Iraq two months ago. Please join in a time of public witness: Sunday, January 29, at 5:00 pm at Robson Square. We will meet on the Robson Street steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby. As part of the Christian Peacemaker Teams Shine the Light campaign, family and friends of Loney invite you to help "Shine the Light" on the U.S. lead occupation of Iraq and the horror it produces in the lives of so many thousands of ordinary Iraqis. We all remember the horrific photographs from Abu Ghraib Prison, one of the U.S. prisons in Iraq. Our procession from Robson Square will be led by a person dressed in a hood, representing all Iraqis held illegally. After a time of vigil, we will proceed to the U.S. Consulate, which represents the government responsible for the war in Iraq. We will continue our call for justice for the 16 000 Iraqis detained without trial by U.S. troops and for an end to the occupation of Iraq. Please bring candles for the procession and flashlights, as big as possible, in order to shine your own light on the Consulate.
For more information please call Greg Rollins at 604-596-7886.
Greg has just returned to BC from Baghdad with Christian Peacemaker Teams.
